전치사 to + 동명사” 관용표현 총정리~

아래의 표현들은 모두 to가 들어있는 숙어들입니다. 여기에서 to는 부정사를 만드는 to가 아닌 전치사 to이므로 그 뒤에는 명사, 대명사, 동명사 등의 명사상당어구가 목적어로 위치해야 합니다. 동사원형이 들어가서는 안 된다는 것을 부각시키기 위해 편의상 ~ing로 표현하였을 뿐, 아래 숙어들의 to 뒤에는 명사, 대명사, 동명사 중 어느 것도 다 위치할 수 있다는 것에 유의하시기 바랍니다.


1) look forward to ~ing 「~을 고대하다」
= anticipate ~ing

Flora is looking forward to getting a letter from her boyfriend in America. 플로라는 미국에 있는 남자친구로부터 편지가 오기를 고대하고 있다.
= Flora is anticipating getting a letter from her boyfriend in America.


2) be opposed to ~ing 「~에 반대하다」
= object to ~ing
= have an objection to ~ing

Are you opposed to my going there? 너는 내가 거기에 가는 것에 대해 반대하니?
= Do you object to my going there?
= Do you have an objection to my going there?


3) be(get) used to ~ing 「~에 익숙하다(익숙해지다)」
= be(get) accustomed to 동사원형/ ~ing

I am not used to making a speech in public. 나는 대중 앞에서 연설하는 것에 익숙하지 않다. 
= I am not accustomed to making a speech in public.

 

 

4) with a view to ~ing 「~하기 위하여」
= for the purpose of ~ing
= with the view of ~ing
= with the intention of ~ing
= with the objective of ~ing

5) contribute to ~ing 「~하는 데 공헌하다. 기여하다」

Dr. Johnson contributed to relieving the homeless. 존슨 박사는 노숙자들은 구제하는 데 공헌하였다.


6) succeed to ~ing 「~을 계승하다」

Princess Fiona succeeded to the throne. 피오나 공주가 왕위를 계승했다.


7) lead to ~ing 「~을 초래하다」

His skills led to his being promoted to executive secretary in 1992. 그의 기술이 그를 1992년 사무국장으로 승진하게끔 만들었다.


8) what do you say to ~ing 「~하는 게 어때?」

What do you say to going to the movies? 영화 보러 가는 게 어때?

 

9) fall to ~ing 「~하기 시작하다」

They fell to talking about their future. 그들은 그들의 미래에 대해 얘기하기 시작했다.
